Bewitch the Skint

When you bestow food for the hungry you make a lasting difference in their lives. The smugness that you get can never be expressed in words.  If you are ever wondering the need for this article at this hour, I’ll give you a clue. It’s a celebration. Yes! It’s World Food Day. For a bit of facts World Food Day is celebrated on 16 October to extol the founding date of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United States in 1945. To me if you ask it’s just an other day. The past or the future never matters if you have never made a lasting today. I’m writing this because there are some pains that needs to be taken care of. Celebration is not just a word; it’s a world of togetherness. When one part of the country celebrates and other starves it makes no sense in merrymaking.

The poignant fact is “The World is hungry”. With each passing day, the World demands for a better tomorrow. The back-breaking innovations impose the need for sustainability. The grim actuality is millions of our fellow beings are dying in hunger while millions of tons of food are being thrown away. It’s a global shame to know that the food we waste can feed 3 billion people. Statistics say over 30% of the food is being thrown to garbage. Why not feed while you know there is an excess is how I want to frame my thoughts.

I’m glad there are Many social welfare organizations that feel that the pain shared is burden halved. Have you ever thought of the fact that Food is going to be the next costliest possession? If not let me give you a glimpse of the harsh reality. The most important fact would be the population growth which is expected to expand to about 9 billion by 2050. Next is the changing climate. The increasing change in climate would drastically affect the agricultural produce. Because of this reason though we know its unsafe using pesticides and adopting to genetically modified foods we accept because we know it would never be possible to feed even one with the punishing climatic changes. The most important final fact is that there is an alarming rise in the prices of food.

The irony is that even with the sufficient quantity of food available we have billions famished to death. So, who should we point the finger at? Who is to blame? The industry? The politicians? The farmers? The retailers? None but ourselves! With each passing day there comes the hope for tomorrow. Let’s show them that there is sunshine waiting to be seen. Be the change you want to see in the most part of the world. Being part of TSM let us give hopes that there is some light on the other side of tunnel. Let’s be the reason someone smiles today.  It’s high time we realize that there lies a responsibility that has to be fulfilled to bewitch the skint!

HALLMARK OF TOP CEO’s

Being the budding managers if you have the aspirations to become an entrepreneur someday, then there are certain common traits that every top CEO’s possess which you must know. This article is a must read to the aspiring minds. Becoming a CEO is an easy task. It’s a matter of seconds you create a job description, work on it, and add to your own profile in social media that you are the CEO of your new company. Presto! Kudos for becoming the new CEO of your dreams. It’s as simple as that. But what really matters is not the position you hold, but how much you have excelled fighting against the galloping freshet. Top CEO’s are good at hiring and firing. They sell people into their own dreams and work towards their grail. They get others to work no matter what. I have also seen CEO’s who are bad at firing people. They hardly realize that the mistake they make in not firing can doom their entire business someday. Being streetwise is more important than being book smart for a successful CEO. They get out, dive into the field and try understanding the psychology of customers to provide them with the world class services. Successful business men build values and cultures in their own organization. They believe it makes them work towards the mission. Being a good listener also matters. They have multiple ways to prove that they are the masters of their own field. They are so optimistic and find zeal in getting feedback from the fellow mates. They fight against all odds, even when they know the business is not running positively, they keep up their resilience and never quit. They are skilled at convincing people about the product or services that they provide. They even become customers advocate deeply understanding what customers want, how they want it and when is the high time to make a move in the giant market space. They naturally have the ability to espouse and forbear uncertainty. They are good at managing crisis. They make associations wherever they go which makes them the most valued among the peer industries. Being an entrepreneur it might demand your action at the right time, push you into decision making – which as two sides of coin could be either a successful decision or an unsuccessful one. The elite CEO’s vie for a top notch place wanting to be ranked the best and be the jack of all trades that they make. I have seen CEO’s who have work life balance personally and also strive hard in providing the same to their employees as well. They know that the smallest kind of selfless act that they make can bring a big difference to someone’s life. They reach out and touch the lives of people. That is what makes them unique and humane. Running a startup can be as hard as the curls of an idiyappam. It is too difficult to separate! All you can do is not bother about the curls and take a bite. Just similar will be the situations you face in life, at times it might be difficult to decipher the problems you face but all you need is rise every time you fall if you want to be the spearhead in your own journey called life. Just remember a mantra that “Life is what you make it”. Best wishes for your aspirations to take a leap in the years to come!

NIT Trichy – Startup Weekend

I wanted to share my experiences on a recent event that i attended at NIT Trichy named "Startup Weekend" which i'll cherish forever!

Date: 15-17 September, 2017

Venue: LH09, NIT Trichy

The event was organized by the Entrepreneurship cell of NIT Trichy. It was a 54 hours event which involved “NO TALK ALL ACTION” Concept. In just 54 hours we experienced the highs, lows, fun and pressure that made up life at startup. We learnt how to create a real company, we met the best mentors, investors, co-founders, and sponsors who were ready to help us get started.

Day 1 – 15 September, 2017

From TSM, myself (Jeyapriya K, Jeyalakshmi, Meenakshi and Surya kumar) went for the startup event. We reached the venue by 5:45PM when the event had been half way through. We were given certain words, teams were formed and were given any 2 words from the board with which we need to develop a business idea and present. My team got “AI and Engines”. We came up with the idea of “Self-healing machines using AI”. The concept was, there are too many derailments and accidents happening, so as a cure we proposed the idea of self-healing machines which heals itself when a mishap occurs. After the pitching this idea for 60 seconds which were a mock pitching we then proceeded to the live 60 Seconds pitch for the day. There were 100 participants out of which 60 people pitched their business ideas and 11 ideas were selected via a sticky note voting idea. We then formed teams to our favorite idea and then started working on the business model canvas which we were asked to submit before the next day 8AM. And we worked on this idea for the next 2 days. We were allotted guest houses which were too comfortable (AC rooms which looked similar to 5 star hotels) and the level of security they provided in taking us to guest houses using cab accompanied by a senior was too good, which showed the level of care they showed for the guests.

Day 2 – 16 September, 2017

The day started at 8:15AM where we had our breakfasts and started building our business plan. We had 7 Mentors from various fields like Marketing, IOT s/w h/w animation DVD manufacturing auctioning, person who had innovation Centre, sales person, person proficient in product management and person who run snack business. We spoke to Dorai, Arul, Natasha and Seyed Ahmed Kabeer who gave us various inputs on the topic Homemakers which we planned to work on. We did financial calculations, analyzed marketing strategies and did presentation to be presented for the next day.

Day 3 – 17 September, 2017

The day started at 8:30AM, we geared ourselves up for the final presentation that evening. We had mock presentation in the order of lots picked by us. We were the 4th team to present; they gave a suggestion that we had no clear business model. We had only half hour time to submit our presentation, it was 2:30PM then, we motivated ourselves and worked faster on the flowchart and completed the presentation. We then presented around 5:45PM as 4th team. The presentation was done by Sashvat and Adithya who did an extraordinarily a good job. We were questioned about how we are going to work on both cooking and tutoring which are both diverse fields and was advised to take care of any one field. We finally won the second place and were given the certificate of excellence. We were said that we would receive funds if we wanted to implement the idea immediately.

And finally, Memories die hard!

Waive Off of Agricultural Loans to Farmers

Currently i'm pursuing MBA at Thiagarajar School of Management, Madurai. The very first task given by my Dean Mr. Shailesh Rastogi when i joined college was to write an article on any topic that concerned us and i wrote about "Waive off of Agricultural Loans to Farmers" which are as follows.

Firstly, there are several issues concerning farmers in almost every state but the sole reason of getting compounded in TN is mainly because of the indifferent attitude that the Central Government has been showing us. The severity of the issue increased after an unprecedented drought for over 140 years in Tamil Nadu and Government's relief package of only 2000 Crores. The primary reason farmers put forward to waive off agricultural loans is the lack of productivity of crops due to insufficient water resources. Farmers pleaded Central Government to resolve Cauvery issue, but Karnataka government was not ready to share the water resources. Also, Central Government was not ready to take immediate decisions even after Supreme court ordered to create a committee to resolve the issue because of then Karnataka's elections. TN's former Chief Minister O. Paneerselvam was considered to be inefficient to handle situations and represent farmers woes, so the protest took place at Jantar Mantar in the capital city of India.

Over 100 farmers from TN carried skulls of people who committed suicide staging protest for 41 days in April demanding drought relief package and loan waiver for peasants from the state. It has been one horrific and bizarre event in the history of India which I personally felt was not resolved immediately. Farmers protested half naked carrying begging bowls, eating mice, wearing Gandhi mask presenting the tragic face of protest, wearing tree leaves presenting the destitution to passersby, climbing trees, and protesting outside Prime Minister's residence which was no ordinary protest to be precise.

I strongly agree to the fact that waiving off loan to TN would demand other states the same justice for which the central government has been backing off which is also impossible and too much of a pressure to handle from the perspective of Central Government. But what I would strongly oppose is the lack of equipment from Government to keep farmers adaptable to any adverse situations. There must be one massive step to overcome the obstacles of farmers whose productivity of crops is solely based upon monsoon rains. Though waiving off loans have been done to TN already twice once in 2008 by congress and another when Madras High court ordered waiving off of loans of all farmers in cooperative banks owing to 5 acres of land, farmers have never been able to overcome the adversities. Even if loan waiver happens I'm pretty sure we are again going to face some consequences in the form of indirect taxes. Now, farmers have resumed their protest at Jantar Mantar who says that they feel cheated by state and central government.

To overcome problems of Indian agriculture which has become highly unorganized today with economically unfeasible farms, high indebtedness and exorbitant interest rates needs immediate solutions. Personally, I felt state government making effective ways for multiple crops, special agricultural zone, modernization, proper education to farmers, meaningful crop insurance policies and better water management along with alternative income to farmers and national weather risk management system would be helpful. We know that our farmers are fighting for us, let us keep supporting them. To be precise, Let our innovation begin with farmers!

A message from the deep

Recently, i was interested with the thought of earning money with what i'm good at - Writing!. So i signed up into a steemit account in the name of "Jonsnow9120" and started posting contents that fancied me. I was not able to make promotions for the contents that i posted hence was weak in capturing likes of co-steemians, as a result my source of income was too poor. (Note - Steemit pays you based on the likes that you get. To get the maximum reach you need to do some promotions.)

"A message from deep" is one such article that i posted that i wanted to share with the rest of you.

I have been in shock ever since i read an article about the level of oceans being polluted recently in a Facebook post. Is it really a matter of concern? - Depends upon your perspective towards how you see life be it animals or humans.

Studies say, around eight million metric tons of our plastic waste enter the oceans from land each year. Where this plastic ends up and what form it takes is a mystery. Most of our waste consists of everyday items such as bottles, wrappers, straws or bags. To be precise, Marine life is dying!

The video that i watched in Facebook literally made me feel ashamed of being a part of pollution in some way or the other. The primary reason for concern is because our household rubbish is polluting every single part of our oceans, at every possible depth. And it is killing our marine life. I heard about self help groups showing active participation in cleaning water bodies and raising awareness against poaching. Kudos to the team! Something not every individual does those people do.

I have been surfing to find ways to eradicate marine pollution. For me the solution seemed to be bringing better and easier recycling methods and supermarkets though have started the initiative of reducing plastic bags, much awareness must be brought among the world on a large scale. Because i personally believe there is no use in crying over a spilt milk.

Have a look at this video which provides us a way to beat ocean plastic!

Even if we don't participate in the cleaning campaigns, let us make an initiative
to reduce the level of plastics we use in our daily life. Because they can never
communicate their pains like we do and it really hurts seeing them die because of us.
Hope there comes greater changes in near future forever. Have a good day!

Never a photostat nor a photocopy

The Art of getting what you wanted in your life is no longer a Somebody's concern when you become independent with your own lifestyle. People today became the most curious citizens letting down their own precious inner peace at somebody's happiness.

The level of people getting a divorce has grown up equating the population explosion in India. Before the statements are proposed for official news, the counterfeit takes a leap in the magazine corners. I'm not penning this article to shout to the world that it has become the most unsafest place to live with nor the people are becoming the most unfairest creatures to meddle with. Just an intention to tell "Keep Calm and Move on".

Seeing the toils around, when i was a kid i felt very unsafe and had too many phobias to handle myself to meet the end of the day. I always kept telling me often that this too shall pass and tomorrow is always going to be a better day. I could not remember the times i counted whenever i said these self motivational talks to myself. I always needed somebody to tell me that it is going to be alright very soon.

Today looking back it has been a chagrin to my very own face for living in a dead end all these days. It has been very late that i realized i have a life for myself and my personal happiness matters the most than the hubbub around. I remember my loved ones masterminding me with all the best elbow room wherein they just failed to ask in return if it was in my wishlists of fancies too.

By my very own behavior for the past 21 years of not listening to what my heart ever wanted, i'm now in an air of melancholy. I have always followed the road map offered by my loved ones, but never one on my own. A sense of humiliation keeps me feel culpable. My loved ones taught me what was the best, but today i feel shivered up to face the world which they never knew. But still i'm never going to give up nor continue the masters who keep me masterminding. I have learnt my very own responsibility with what my birth has to teach.

With each new seeds sowed (Pre-birth) and with each shoot that grows up to become the stem (Birth), as the plant gets taller (Growth since birth), the leaves and flowers matters the most with whom to provide the shade and whom to give an yield (Achievements and Social Adaptations). BUT only if your Roots (Foundation that the loved ones cultivate) are the strongest. Just be yourself and be happy for who you are.

Keep the charm that someone wants and be the person someone has never been. No matter who you are, never try duplicating what already has been. Being your own version of "Best" matters the most than the photocopies (Human comparisons) people keep searching for.

Deadly vanishes into thin air

Sometimes bad luck hits you like an ancient Greek tragedy and it is not your own making. The catastrophe that strikes are so inconceivable.
The three heart-wrenching crashes are yet to be fully explained while there are many conspiracy theories being explained. Two Malaysian Air Boeing Co. 777s, out of which one has been suspected to have disappeared in the Indian Ocean and the other MH17 posits that it has been shot down. Also there lies an unexplained AirAsia tragedy which slaughtered 665 passengers, accounting for 75 percent of annual toll of 884, according to safety consultant Ascend Worldwide.
The mystery crashes began with Malaysian flight MH370 which vanished on March 8th, MH17 on July 17th and ended up with the demise of AirAsia QZ8501 on a routine trip from Java to Singapore on December 28th of 2014. This proves that 2014 has been one of the deadliest years ever since 2005. Paul Hayes, head of safety at Ascend, one who has tracked trends in air crashes since 1974 quoted that, “Planes are becoming so big that the loss of even one wide-body can have a major impact on the data”. He also quoted that, “Planes seating more than 14 people suffered 10 events that killed passengers last year, the same number as in 2013, when 220 travelers died, and 2012, when 416 perished”.
All three jets were reported to be flying at a cruising altitude, with MH370 having leveled out at 35,000 feet after departing Kuala Lumpur for Beijing before doubling back over the Malay peninsula for unexplained reasons which carried 227 passengers including 12 crew leading to unknown evidences of 239 people. MH17 was operating at 33,000 feet when it plunged to the ground and it carried 283 passengers including crew of 15 leading to fatality of all 298 people, and AirAsia QZ8501 was at 32,000 feet when its pilots asked to go higher in stormy weather carrying 155 passengers, 7 crew leading to fatality of all 162 people out of which 48 bodies have been found and 25 bodies have been identified. Aviation experts believe that what happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 may never be proved - but that hasn't stopped a vocal global community of conspiracy theorists from trying.
There have been many conspiracy theories regarding MH370 explained by many of those theorists as, “it could have been shot down during a joint military exercise between the United States and Thailand in the South China Sea, Terrorist hijacking, or probably an Island landing”.
Despite all those theories, the reality is certainly more mundane. To my perception  whatever happened to the plane was "a deliberate act by someone on board, a perfectly planned suicide or a revenge attack. Until we realize the dead pains, peace and harmony will be the words only in the pages of dictionary". But will we ever be able to prove that? No.
